Road closed for Trump’s motorcade, Macron forced to stand

Desk Report:

World leaders have gathered in New York to attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly. French President Emmanuel Macron has also gone there. And there an embarrassing but funny incident happened to him. After leaving the UN office, Macron stepped out to cross the road to go to the French Consulate. But he was immediately stopped by a group of police. But why? Because US President Donald Trump will be passing through that road. So the entire road is closed. No one can cross. Not even the French president.

According to the French media outlet France 24, after talking to the police with a smile, French President Macron called Trump on Monday. However, the road did not open even after the phone call. Although Macron did not request Trump to open the road. However, an official of the French president said that the two leaders had a friendly conversation and they also exchanged views on several international issues.

The beginning of the phone call was unusual. After talking to the police, Macron took out his phone and called Trump. He said, ‘Hello, how are you? Guess what’s happening!’ This is not how a conversation usually starts between two heads of state.

The French president had gone to New York to attend the UN General Assembly session. He was rushing from the UN headquarters to another meeting when the police stopped him. It was reported that the road had been closed for US President Donald Trump’s convoy.

In such a situation, Macron reached for the phone. Footage broadcast by the French media BFMTV and the online platform Brut shows Macron telling Trump in fluent English, ‘I’m waiting in the street because everything is blocked for you.’

The situation did not change even after the phone call. Macron finally walked to the meeting organized at the French consulate. He was also scheduled to have dinner with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that night. However, he took the opportunity to walk and continued talking to Trump on the phone. Macron said he also wants to discuss the Gaza situation with Qatar.

An official of the French presidency, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “The president called Donald Trump while walking. They had a very cordial and friendly discussion. This allowed for an update on several international issues.”

Meanwhile, Trump has strongly criticized Macron for recognizing the Palestinian state at the United Nations. However, the personal relationship between the two leaders is said to be warm. They had a long and warm handshake. Macron even invited Trump to the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, although he had not yet taken office for a second term.
